When people hear the word magik, they often imagine something mysterious, distant, or even intimidating. But for me, magik has never been about power over others—it has been about coming home to myself. It is the art of aligning with the divine current that already flows through and around us.
For those of us who have lived through trauma, life can feel heavy, haunted by echoes of the past. Old fears and wounds can reappear like shadows, whispering that we are still trapped. But magik, at its core, offers us a path of liberation. It gives us tools to clear the inner space, so love can move freely again.
One of the most beautiful practices I’ve worked with is a simple ritual called the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (LBRP). Though it has ceremonial roots, it is ultimately a prayer in motion—a way of reclaiming your sacred space, body, and mind.
The Heart of the Practice
At its core, the LBRP is not about pushing away the world—it’s about releasing what no longer serves you, so you can feel safe and centered. Think of it like sweeping the floor of your soul. It creates a container where your heart can rest without being disturbed by the noise of old fears, toxic memories, or the anxieties of the day.
How to Practice a Gentle LBRP
Here is a soft, love-centered version you can begin with. You don’t need robes, wands, or elaborate tools—just yourself, your breath, and your intention.
Center Yourself Stand tall, feet grounded. Close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths, imagining a golden light shining from above your head down into your heart. Call the Divine Within Whisper (or think) words that connect you to love—whether you say “Source,” “God,” “Goddess,” “Light,” or even simply “Love.” Feel that presence filling you. Draw the Pentagram of Light Facing forward, imagine a glowing blue star (a pentagram) drawn in the air with your hand or just your mind. As you draw it, picture it radiating protection and peace. Breathe love into it. Turn to Each Direction Turn to your right (East), and draw another star of light. Do this for the South, West, and North. Each time, imagine that direction shining with energy, forming a circle of protection around you. Call the Angels of the Four Winds You don’t need to use Hebrew names or complex phrases unless you want to. Simply say: “Angel of the East, be with me in clarity.” “Angel of the South, be with me in strength.” “Angel of the West, be with me in love.” “Angel of the North, be with me in grounding.” Feel these guardians surrounding you with peace and safety. Stand in the Center Return to stillness. Imagine yourself glowing in a sphere of pure light, with love at your heart and peace in every direction. Whisper softly: “I am safe. I am free. I am whole.”
Why It Heals
Trauma often leaves us feeling powerless, as if the past has stolen pieces of who we are. The LBRP gently restores that power by reminding us: This is my space. This is my body. This is my soul.
It is a ritual of reclamation. Each time you perform it, you are telling the universe—and more importantly, yourself—that you deserve safety, love, and freedom. Over time, those shadows begin to lift, replaced by the quiet certainty that you are more than your pain.
Closing with Love
If you carry wounds that feel too heavy, I invite you to try this practice. Do it daily, or whenever you feel burdened. Know that healing does not mean erasing the past—it means learning to walk with it in light.
Magik, when rooted in love, is simply a way of remembering the truth: you are sacred, you are strong, and you are never alone.
With all my heart,
Jace Lumen
